Crewed up on Oblivion with Capt. Trax and crew...Lee, Lee's buddy Mike and Sublime Jim. Pretty nice ride out but dark with a lot of cloud cover but the seas were decent.
We ended up in between 50-100f on the 350 line just after sun-up. Worked a nice 8-10 degree temp break and within an hour or so we had a couple of bites with one staying tight. Hook pulled about 50ft from the boat. Put the stuff back out and we get a knockdown on a short rigger. Drop back, nothing. Then bam the fish is on. Another fish pulls a bait out of Jim's hands as he's dropping back, another hits the other rigger. One stays tight and we boat a nice YFT. Boat back in gear, rigger comes down right away. Boat another nice YFT. Shortly thereafter another short rigger and another YFT. Some massive blow ups on the bird chain and then we finally get one to stay tight and boat another YFT on the bird chain. 30 minutes of great fishing then NADA. Bite totally shut down. We probably had about 10 bites in total.
Trolled around for a long time with nothing then the planer comes up and we're tight. We end up boating a nice 40 pound Longfin for Mike. Later some reports of fish on the surface 5 miles south so we pick up and run. 15 minutes after we re-deploy we get a long rigger bite and another Longfin. We keep at it for a while but pull the plug around 3pm I think.
Sweet ride in with a slight following sea
Final tally, 4 YFT in the 40-45 pound class and 2 nice Longfins.
We fished mainly 90-120 fathoms for our bites. Went out as deep as 250f a couple of times...marked loads and loads of bait all over the place.
First Yellowfin
Hooked up
Blood...
Longfin for Mike
Bites were on med ballys with sea witches or naked and a couple hits on the bird chain with an Ilander and large bally. No touches on the spreader bars.
cape may is not all its cracked up to be. 140 miles south and it's a different world. 60 miles more, and your really cook'in. right now we got NO game. that's awesome!
