On my days off between my regular job and my larger boat “Bill$ 4 Bills” I have been doing a little striper fishing with some success in the upper Chesapeake Bay. The past few weeks I have been fishing the areas of Severn River and an area known as the Mud Flats. We have been catching a good number of fish but there have been a lot of throw backs. When we do catch a keeper it is in the 20”- 22” size range. For us the best fishing times have been 1 hour before high tide and 1 ½ hours after high tide. I have my own way of setting up my rigs using weights anywhere from 1/8oz – ¾ oz egg sinkers. It's a lot of work changing weights as the tides decrease and increases but in the long run it’s been paying off for me. I don’t know if this will work for everyone I’m just passing on what has been working for me.
These fish (19" 20" 20") were caught in the Upper Chesapeake Bay fishing the area known as the Mud Flats on 6/25/05 We caught about 15 fish a couple were to close for comfort to keep so we threw them back
These fish (20" 21" 22") were caught in the Upper Chesapeake Bay fishing the area known as the Mud Flats on 6/22/05. Do to wind, seas and storms we only fished for three hours and caught a total of 12 fish including these 3 keepers
