I think the bite was just off on Friday. We ran from Squan north to the bay and back with nothing but a giant bluefish and some really pretty marks on the fishfinder to show for it.
Kinda glad to hear that it we didn't miss anything by going north, I was torn as to which way to head. This whole year has been screwy, fish are here one day, gone the next. It's no better in the bay either, no consistent bite at any of the traditional spots. One day it's slamming, 40 fish trips, two days later you can barely get a blue. I just don;t get it this year

Cut the bottom half of the tail off and send them down on a slider rig into the school. The cut tail will keep the bait swimming low and a bass will pick it out of a school since it is sluggish compared to others, if that does not work, cut the whole tail off a live bunker, it will flutter to the bottom and a bass will pick it up. These are sure fire ways to land big bass when they are feeding and an ordinary bunker does not work. I've done this for years and watched it outfish many who did not do the same, hope it helps!!
