The Mar-Vic's third trip to the 19 lump area again resulted in some fresh BFT for the grill. We left the dock around midnight and arrived at the lump a little after 4 am. Searched around for a spot a started chunking butters around 4:30. Initially started baiting with butters and sardines, but then started adding live ling to the mix. Around 6:30 or 7:00, one off the deep rods goes off and it's game on for Brian Jr. As we were drifting, we quickly fired up the CATS and started chasing the fish as it was taking most of the line off the 50. About 1/2 hour later, Brian Jr had retreived most of the line and the fish had started it's death spiral at the boat. The gaff was sunk and the 99# fish was in the box.
No other bites the who day. Saw some other boats hooked up (both driting and anchored) throughout the day with some long fights using those light leaders on these big fish.
