T&A Tackle Fishing Report - Port Monmouth

Alan at T&A on Rt. 36 sent this to me, figured I'd pass it on.

"We are getting reports of flounder in the Navesink & Shrewsbury Rivers also off of Earle Pier and on the flats at Keyport.

Joe and Jennifer Strehl fished near the naval pier and limit out on flounder with the largest weighing 2 pounds, 3 once.

The striper action has picked up in Port Monmouth and Belford on clams and worms.

Our first weigh-in of the season was brought in by Bill Collins of Port Monmouth. Bill has been fishing at Port Monmouth all week and got a keeper each day but the one he got on Friday was worth keeping, this one weighed in at 19 lb, 4 oz and was 36 inches.

Doug Travers of Atlantic Highlands came in with a 10lb, 3oz - 32 inch striped bass he got on clams at Port Monmouth."

Seems 2 hours before and hour after high and at night have been the ticket so far. Got 2 more reports of keepers to 36" under similar conditions from the same 2 locations. Might have to try one night later in the week.

Yup Reno still has the bags,....dunno what I'd do without him down the road, I've been getting clams from him for years. He is a great guy to deal with.

Bryan, My boat goes in the 29th, I'll be fishing a bit during the week until June 1, then mostly afternoons and weekends after that, due to work. We will have to set up some trips, I'll be fishing a bit alone or with only 1 other aboard so your more then welcome to join me. I'm ready to do some chunkin right off the bat, not sure where Cathy Sea has been fishing, I'd assume the back bay since that is likely where the bunker are now. I'll be out the 29th scouting around some spots as soon asI get the lines tied, I'll let you know how I do.

You're on.... the bunker have been in GK but they've been spotty and not thick. That should change now that the demons are here and can start to pin them in. I'm going out down south on Wednesday, but should be giving the bunker a try this weekend. Pete's in the water over at Browns Point so I'll keep you posted on what we hit.

Pete with the Grady?

I keep my boat in Browns Point as well. The plan is to splash on Fri. I won't be able to get out from under the bridge until low tide (I keep it at Seaboard for the winter), I think around 6pm or so.

If your looking to get out to do some chunking let me know. I may have room on Sat.
