stripper fishing in barnegat light, nj

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site and was looking for some advice re. stripper fishing. I'll be down in barnegat for the next ten days on 26th street. I was wondering if anyone had any recomedations re. fishing the surf in that area and what bait they seem to be hitting on. I usually will alternate between eel, clams and bunker. I'd prefer to avoid the inlet and stick to the surf. Any suggestions or reccomedations would really be helpful. Even the best tide times a couple hours before high, etc. what type of sinkers; anything. Thanks very much!

    Hello,

you can use clams or bunker.. also small metals like deadly dicks, crippled herrings, and small ava 17-27 with or without a teaser.

I like to fish 1 1/2 - 2 hours before and after high tide.. I also like to fish dusk and dawn (the "magical hours")..

Stop over at barnegat light bait and tackle and speak with basil or nick over there and they will hook you up..

also dont throw out the fact you can jump on the doris mae and go catch some stripers!!!

    thanks

I will def. stop in and see those guys, usually do every year. And, your right they usually are helpful. Just wanted to get some other opinions. I've been fishing for striper for 15 years, and your going to laugh, never caught a keeper from the surf! Came w/in 1-2 inches but had to throw em back. Of course I'm not out there every day, but on avg. prob. 10-15 times a year, caught, bluse, porgies (not sure of spelling), of course skates and and sand sharks, lol! But, not a keeper. Not that it's the worst thing in the world, it's like the old saying "a bad day of fishing beats the best day at work". But, would still love any tips, anything etc. Thanks so far.
