One eye is fixed now so plannin a trip to IRI for stripers soon. I can see clearly now the bouys can't hide. Inside the inlet is where I will be. Put a pot out off my dock 2 days ago and got 6 eels. 12-18 inches. Should have more tomorrow. Is there any chance I could encounter a striper big enough to take the 18" eel ? He is big. 20# spinners or should I break out a 30# stand up ? How would you rig this Eel ? I'm thinkin floss thru the eyes with a circle and a stinger Circle 3/4 of the way back. Not sure how to attach the stinger. Thought of a rubber band but it would probably slip. Slimy little bugger that he is. Chances are he's gonna be pissed so any help would be appreciated. Already tried to bite me twice. |

Eels
Single hook through the upper and lower lip is all I do for drifting them. Generous drop back. Get fewer hits with a stinger. Blues will take everything but the head. 20" is kind of big, but it would still get eaten.
Put the eels in the freezer to slow them down. Wet towel with salt. Check them every half hour until they are easy to manage. I keep them on ice and rig them from the cooler. Much easier to handle, especially at night. I had forgotten them once and they froze SOLID. One broke in half. The rest thawed back to life! |

They actually froze and came back to life ? Those things ae hard to kill. ![]() Did that once and took to long to rig it, dam, had snakes everywhere. ![]() I know 18" may be big for IRI but ya never know when that cow will show up. Got a couple smaller ones to fish. Normal striper rig. Was just wondering if the big guy would work. Guess I'll find out. With any luck, Pics to follow.

HEY JOE,....GOOD TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE ON THE REBOUND..
ABOUT THE EELS...GET READY TO USE THE SMALLER ONES. SAVE THAT 18" EEL FOR ABOUT NOVEMBER 10TH TO THE 15TH, WHEN THOSE COWS ARE NORMALLY HERE.... THEY ARE SO MUCH EASIER TO RIG IF THEY CHILLED ON ICE......AND THEN HOOK THEM.....THEY BECOME LETHARGIC KIND OF LIKE A ROCKFISH IN THE MONTH OF MARCH IN THE WATER..... LISTEN,....LOOSE THE STINGER HOOK IDEA ON A LIVE EEL.....IT WON'T WORK.....NOW HERE IS ANOTHER IDEA....OK YOU CAN RIG THE LARGER EELS AFTER MOSTLY FROZEN AND DEAD, ....WITH TWO HOOKS ONE AT THE HEAD AND THE OTHER RIGHT INFRONT OF THE BUTHOLE ON THE WHITE, BOTTOM SIDE OF THE EEL BY RUNNING A PIECE OF RIGGING WIRE FROM THE BUTT UP THROUGH THE MOUTH AND HOOKING THE HEAD HOOK AND THE STINGER HOOK TOGETHER WITH A PIECE OF #4 WIRE. IF YOU CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT,.....CALL ME AND I WILL STOP BY AND SHOW YOU HOW TO RIG IT... FOR NOW,......JUST PUT THAT BIG EEL IN A TANK AND FEED HIM FOR 3 MORE WEEKS. WWW.FISHGALEFORCE.COM |
