MD Striper with the Blues (w/Pics)

John, and his good friend, Don arrived at the Hanover Street Ramp at 7:00am on 9/18/06. We all headed out to fish the upper Chesapeake Bay and enjoyed the nice day while catching fish.

We did locate plenty blue fish and small stripers

    And the TV lit up

John and I saw the big bluefish that put a hurting on this small striper

The water temperature was 74.1 degrees when we left and the most productive lure was a 1 1/2 ounce Lure-Jensen Cripple Herring spoon.

Vertically jigging the spoons of the bottom turned out to be the most productive technique.

Everyone: Thanks for the kind replies.

Ken: You would have had a great time with the long pole on these fish. Some of the blues were in the 15 to 17 inch range.

Bay Fishin: A guestimate is 17 to 19 inches.

    Tom,

Just curious about something. I noticed that your using a swivel to attach your CH. I just wanted to know why? I know its easy to change out the lure and it probably gives it more action then a direct knot, but does it shy away fish at all? Do you use it when your in breaking fish only? I usually use a uni and leave it open a bit, when a fish hits it cinches it down or comes tight.

    Thanks is advance.

Excellent question. I didn’t catch that fish John did. I don’t use any hardware when I’m striped bass fishing. Please see: http://www.capttomhughes.com/Knots/n...uorocarbon.htm
