Storms bearing down for Tue and Weds
State and local officials are keeping their eyes on a storm bearing down on Delmarva today that could bring high coastal flooding.
The storm is expected to last from this afternoon to Thursday morning, with 1 to 2 inches of rain in the forecast.
Officials are concerned about the potential of an astronomical high tide, with a higher-than-normal water level overwhelming the damaged beaches, Joe Thomas, Sussex County's emergency operations director, said.
The National Weather Service is predicting heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms for the Atlantic coast, with winds gusting as high as 44 miles per hour.
"Under normal circumstances, this would obviously be a minor storm or inconvenience, but because of the conditions of our beaches from the Veterans Day storm, we need to observe what's going on," Thomas said.
Authorities will have a conference call today to update coastal communities about the storm. Forecasters are also keeping an eye on Saturday, Thomas said.
