Sterling Harbor Fishing report -6-19
Flounder fishing was good at the Old Grounds, Reef Site 11 and the Cape May Reef, and should improve each week as the season progresses.
Flounder are also being caught along the edge of the shipping lanes from 14 Foot Light to above Miah Maul in the Delaware Bay. In the Backbays, there are plentiful short Flounder, and the keepers seem to be coming from deeper water. Sharking is still good with plenty of Mako's and Threshers around. Chris Hoffman of West Deptford, NJ weighed in an 83 pound Mako caught at the Misty Blue aboard Sean Gallagher's "Beagle" out of Wildwood, NJ. Schools of Bluefin Tuna are everywhere from the 20 Fathom line out to the Canyons, and a few where caught on the troll, but generally have been tough to catch. The "Captain Chaos" out of Wildwood, NJ trolled the Baltimore Canyon and released a 5 foot Mako. Bernadette Daiber caught her first Golden Tilefish on the trip, and the crew reported 15 more were caught up to
25 pounds. Chaz Gallagher of Williamstown, NJ reported 5 Yellowfin Tuna in the 40-60 pound range while trolling the Poorman's Canyon on his "Reel Classic" out of Wildwood, NJ.
In the surf, Kingfish have showed up from Avalon to Cape May. An occasional Striper was caught, but the Striper bite in the surf has slowed. Schoolie Stripers are still hanging around the backbays, and can be caught on Clam or Surface lures. Crabby Jack gives the crabbing
5 Claws again this week, and says the crabs are large and plentiful.
