The Baker Family of Jim Thorpe, PA fished one of the offshore wrecks and had a nice mix of Sea Bass, Ling and Cod while fishing with Capt. Tom Daffin in the Fishing Fever III.
Prior to the storm Flounder fishing was as good as it gets, but Hurricane Irene must have stirred up the Ocean bottom, because after the storm the Flounder are tough to come by and Croakers have invaded the South Jersey waters.
We had some nice weigh-ins just prior to the hurricane. Michael Bascome, age 7 of Wayne, PA weighed in a 3 pound 4 ounce Flounder while fishing on Dad's boat "Size Matters" out of Wildwood, NJ. Cindy Dickinson of Cape May, NJ checked in with her personal best Fluke that tipped the scales at 7 pounds 8 ounces. She caught the fish at the Cape May Reef on Squid while fishing on her boat "U-10". Ethan and Zach Smith of Phoenixville, PA and friends Stephen and Mason Brill had a nice catch of Fluke and a surprise fish; an 18 pound Barracuda caught on a Diamond Jig at the Old Grounds that measured 40 inches. Offshore the fish are scattered as well. In the Back bays plenty of schoolie Stripers with an occasional keeper are hitting on Top Water Plugs in the evening or at night. In the surf, Kingfish are still biting in Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood. Aidan, age 7, and Liam, age 5, Haley of Maplewood, NJ stopped in to pick up some more Fishbites "Bag O Worms" and to tell us that they caught their first ever Kingfish in the Wildwood Crest surf. Crabby Jack gives the crabbing 4.5 Claws this week and says the crabbing is excellent!
