Erratic changes in water temperature seem to have mixed up the feeding habits of the fish a bit. The temperatures are moving upward though. This means the striped bass will continue their way up the coast, and that fishery will slow down to the fish that remain here for the summer. A few striped bass are still being taken on the beach, but most of the recent action has involved various sized bluefish along with some summer flounder. Some boats are heading out of Barnegat Inlet and heading north for a few big stripers. Betty and Nick's Bait and Tackle weighed in a 48-pound striped bass for Sean Masi that he caught in his kayak. He also had a 25.8-pounder earlier in the week. The Dock Outfitters in Seaside Heights reported they recently had a blitz right off their docks for about an hour of fish ranging from 1-6 pounds. Crabbing there is rated good right now.
