Headed out of solomons on thursday with my dad and his friend sam. Sam wanted to catch a flounder so I headed over to the far side and put out a few flounder rods. We were fishing cut bluefish with squid strips. Sam caught a nice 18 incher and we had 5 throwbacks. Didn't want to give the flounder fishing to long so after about an hour I said let's go south and find some rockfish. Headed south about 14 miles and found what I was looking for tons of baits and some good marks under the boat. Then the fish started breaking and they didn't stay uplong but stayed on them with the fishfinder and ended up catching around 6o blues in the 2-5 pound category and 20 or so rockfish mixed in. We could of kept our limit of rocks but deceided to only keep two one 23 and one 19. The rockfish were a good grade 17-24 inches. Sam had a blast and was pumped after getting on that pod for about an hour. Gave one more shot at the flounder for about 30 minutes and caught 3 throwbacks. Deceided to call it a day and headed in. The hot lure of the day was a gold jig and the blues shredded half my dropper flies. The wind was a solid 15+ all day. I fish out of solomons two+ days a week and I will report more often.
