    Snoods vs. Trot

OK this is the classic questions!

    Snoods or plain trot?

I personally run just a plan trot. No specific reason, just they way daddy taught me. I was thinking about trying snoods this year. The snoods are supposed to be better for re-baiting. Any thoughts. I dont have many problems of them dropping off too early (I use a roller for my prop stick to lessen the vibration and try to run teh line on the shaddow side of the boat when wind is not a factor, but when they are running, I doo get the baits chewed up nicly.

    Any thoughts?

    Haaah!

Sorry about that! Snoods is simply addin a 12" or so length of line (usally bungy cord) to a trot line to hold the baits off of the trot line. It allows them to dangel. Also they are usally atteched with a clip (i.e. long-line clip) allowing you to remove and add fresh baits. The advantage is said to be less vibration, and keeping the baits lower in the water, until it hits the prop stick. Give me some time and I will post up some pics and decriptions of whaat I mean for those that don't know.

Like I said before, we that live on the chesapeake take our crabbing like a baptist takes to sunday service, its truly a religon!

PS, I tried Grits again Sunday Morning in Southport, and I still dont see the appeal!!

    But that's for anouther thread!

hey, us NC'rs arent strangers to the old blue crab either. crabs are the states product.

down here we run trotlines for catfish, and pots for crabs. how does a crab trotline work???

I'm with ya on the grits Capt. D.... If you can aquire a taste for those you can surely aquire a taste for anything... Not my favorite...

I don't mess with snoods either... Too much of a pain. I am not the worlds best crabber, but we always get what we need for supper. Don't need to catch more than that.

I have a buddy who is excellent at pulling those critters off the bottom and into the basket and he swears by his snoods. They do work well, but require an extra bit of technique and care...

I'm a lazy crabber content with 3/4 of a bushel... I stick with my string.

No snoods for me...Plus I used a 3-strand tarred line so I don't even use knots to hold my bait...Just untwist the 3 strands, put the bait in, and then twist them back together...
