Skunk report sat-7/21
Well, Friday i was torn between fishing with Capitan Pete live baiting for Kings off of Sandbridge or maybe trying to get in a couple more reds at the nine foot shoals that Lurker had been so grasious to report on earlier in the week. Decided on the latter and the question then became whether or not we could get some decent bait and chum. Well MIke ended up paying a lot of money for some not so great frozen menhaden (45 ducks for 40 lbs [sad]). Anyhow we met down at the "Ms. Molly" around 0630, ready to load the boat and go. After carrying and dumping some fuel in the boat, bringing the coolers ice and bait down, and all the other "stuff" down and putting it in the boat, Mike commented (as sweat dripped down his face) how tired he was and we hadnt even left the dock). Fast forward and we are setting down to anchor when we see a boat in our favorite spot, oh well, so we pulled up a little short and got anchored up. As in the title you saw there was no fish caught today(reds or cobes) just a couple of critters. But while waiting we had the pleasure (or was it) of another different bird joining us. Ive become quite the "bird watcher" here latley. I call him the scooby-do snorkling outrigger chum chaser bird. As you can see in the pitchure this rat of a bird would just swim around snorkling with his head underwater, using his wings as outriggers steadying himself and allowing himself to see, then feed on all the big chunks of chum exiting our tube. Sucker got so brazen you could more than likely have fed him out of your hand. Only other highlight of the day was a 4' hammerhead that I almost coaxed into taking my white bucktail . Close but no cigarette but Mike and myself enjoyed watching him glide effortlessly against the current all around the boat. Awesome creature. And we did get a good laugh or two watching a boat run up another nearby boats chumline and the drifting it back, lol.(glad it wasnt ours, lol). No fish today but still had a good time- sure beat sitting at home or being at work. I gotta give the back a break today, its hurtin, so here I sit at home, hunting and pecking on the keyboard. Here are somepix of scooby-do snorkling-outrigger bird. (can someone tell me what kind of bird this one is for future reference?) Long report for a skunk but hey, you didnt have to ckick on it !!!!!! see- ya- craig
Here he comes cruising up our slick- head underwater
Good report Craig. We also got a little skunk yesterday for our target species. My first cobia attempt this year without a fish. We caught a couple more big drum today during the daytime though as a school moved through. The other guys on the boat didn't share my enthusiasn. One of em hit a monster live eel and the other on cut bluefish. Awesome surprise.....as well as a nice little hammerhead. Great lookin fish. It was beautiful to see that school pop up right by the boat. Hope you get em next time....Tilly
ONE THING I LIKE ABOUT MILES AND TILLY...IS THEY TELL IT LIKE IT IS...THE WAY IT HAPPENED............HERO OR ZERO............BUT HOW CAN YOU BE A ZERO WITH A DAY ON THE WATER.....?
I admire anyone who can admit they got the Skunk and report about it
Some guys only report on their good days LOL.
However, there are always positives to a Skunk report, it's all in your attitude.....see Fintage Tuna & Shark Trip Saturday 7/23 I thought I made mine pretty positive LOL.
WAHOO, you got it right, there is no such thing as a Zero day on the water (as long as you make it back in! )
