Here's the latest sea temp shot from today, shown in 3 different temp ranges; 60-82 (22 degrees), 72-80 (8 degrees), and 75-79 (4 degrees).
The key to understanding/using sea temps is that the broader your temp range, the more diffuse (and less useable) the data becomes.
If you able to squeeze the range based on what part of the image YOU are interested in, then the data become MUCH more useable. Look at the difference of the useability of the image when the range gets reduced from a 22 degree range to a 4 degree range.
Then compare that to the 3-dimensional image showing what's happening underneath the surface imagery. The Trip Planner is positioned on the same spot in all 4 images, showing the position of the 1.5 degree break crossing over Hudson Canyon.
You can also compare the route's position to all of the other variables such as Chlophyll, Altimetry, Salinity, and Surface Currents giving you USEABLE data on which to plan your trip.
