Sea surface Temperature Block to Hatteras report 8-31

The sea surface temperature off of Cape Cod Bay, Vineyard Sound, Block Island, and Long Island Sound is currently 72°F. The sea surface temperature along the coast of Vineyard Sound and Block Island has increased to 74°F. The sea surface temperature along the coast of northern New Jersey is currently 77-79°F. There is a narrow strip of 75-76°F sea water that separates the coastal water from the Gulf Stream, which is carrying sea surface temperatures between 77-85°F. The top of the Gulf Stream has begun to spin itself into a warm water eddy that sits at 39.5°N and 72°W that is carrying sea surface temperatures between 77-81°F. The west edge of this warm water eddy has migrated towards the coast of New Jersey and currently rests at 73.5°F. This warm edge has increased the sea surface temperature of southern New Jersey and northern Delaware to 75°F. The temperature in the Delaware Bay increases to 77-79°F. The hurricanes are causing warm water eddies from the Gulf Stream to break off and migrate close to the coast. There is a warm water eddy that runs along the coast of Delaware and into the Delaware Bay that is currently 82-84°F. Excluding this warm water eddy, the average sea surface temperature off of the coast of southern Delaware and North Carolina has increased to 78-82°F. The Chesapeake Bay is reporting sea surface temperatures between 84°F. There is a warm water eddy located at 37°N and 74°W that is currently carrying sea surface temperatures between 82-84°F. Except for the coastal waters around the coast of Block Island, the entire north Atlantic coastline has a sea surface high between 25-30 cm above sea level.
