sea Surface Temperature Block to Hatteras 7-28
Block Island to Cape Hatteras
The sea surface temperature along the coastline of Cape Cod Bay is currently between 68 and 72°F. The sea surface temperature along Buzzard Bay, Vineyard Sound, and Long Island increases a few degrees to about 77 to 80°F, while the temperature along Block Island is 68 to 72°F. There is a colder water front directly on the coastline of New Jersey that is currently 73 to 77°F. South of this warm water front the sea surface temperature directly along the coast from New Jersey to North Carolina decreases to 69-73°F. As you move east off coast the sea surface temperature gradually increases to first 77°F, then 81°F, and then 85°F once you hit the Gulf Stream. There appears to be two oscillating warm water eddies up near where this warmer water hits the colder water around the coast of Rhode Island. Both eddies are located at 39°N, with one eddy at 71.5°W and the other at 69.5°W. Both eddies are also carrying water between 79-82°F. There is a low water system in the mouth of Long Island Sound that is currently 25 cm below sea level. There is a high water system off of the coast of North Carolina that is currently 20 cm above sea level. To the east of this high water system is a low water system that is 30 cm below sea level with a 30 cm high water system to the east of that.
