Sea surface report Block to Hatteras Beta test
Block Island to Hatteras:
The Gulf Stream, with a high temperature of 70°F, is wrapping nicely around the coast of Florida and Georgia, pulling away as you move towards Virginia. After the Gulf Stream pulls away, cold water of 50°F begins to form off the coast of Virginia getting colder as you reach Rhode Island. The cold waters off of the coast of Virginia to Rhode Island have allowed for some phytoplankton productivity, with particularly high values in the Baltimore and Hudson inlets to the open ocean. The altimetry (or Sea Surface Height) shows a sea surface depression of -30cm below mean sea level about 150 nm of the coast of Virginia that is currently not moving.
