Block Island to Cape Hatteras
The sea surface temperatures off the coast of Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York are ranging between 50 to 53°F. The Hudson Canyon and the coast of northern New Jersey is currently 57°F. The Delaware Bay and the coast of Delaware have warmed to 61°F. The coast of Virginia and North Carolina warm to 63°F, with 65°F warm water pockets. The water on the coast of Pamlico Sound is currently 75°F. Looking off coast, the warm water eddy that pinched off the Gulf Stream has moved closer to the coast of North Carolina. The water on the edge of the eddy is 66°F, with the water in the center being 69°F. Off the coast of Delaware there is small warm water eddy carrying water temperatures of 66°F. There is a small high water system off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard that is currently 15 cm above sea level. There is a sea water low forming off of the Hudson Valley that is currently -10 cm below sea level. There is another sea surface low in the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay that is currently -15 cm below sea level. The chlorophyll images show that there are high levels of phytoplankton productivity in the mouths of protected inlets and bays.
