Block Island to Cape Hatteras
The coast of Cape Cod and Buzzard Bay are currently 60 to 64°F. The coast of Long Island Sound is slightly warmer, reporting sea surface temperatures of 64 to 67°F. Hudson Canyon and the coast of New Jersey is also reporting sea surface temperatures of 67°F. At 37°N and 74°W, there is a cold spot on the coast of New Jersey that is currently 61°F. Southern New Jersey and the Delaware Bay are warm a few degrees to 69°F, with the coast of northern Delaware cooling back off to 65 to 69°F. The coast of southern Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina are currently 71 to 74°F. Off of the coast of Rhode Island there are a few cold water eddies that are carrying cold waters of about 41 to 45°F. The eddy closest to the coast of Rhode Island is currently at 41°N and 69.5°W, while the eddy furthest off of the coast is currently at 41.5°N and 67.5°W. Still looking off coast, the Gulf Stream brakes up around 38 to 39°N, where one can find a few warm water eddies that are currently carrying waters with a sea surface temperature of 67°F. There is, however, one distinct eddy that is currently at 38.5°N and 70°W. The chlorophyll image shows that there is relatively high levels of phytoplankton productivity along the inlets and bays of the North Atlantic coast. There is also some phytoplankton productivity along the coast of New Jersey. There is a sea surface high off of the coast of Cape Cod that is currently 15 cm above sea level. There is a sea surface low in the mouth of the Hudson Canyon that is currently 10 cm below sea level. The waters off of the coast of Delaware, Virginia, and North Carolina are also all about 10 cm above sea level.
