Block Island to Cape Hatteras
The storms system moving toward the coast is pushing warm water from Gulf Stream up towards our coast causing the water off the coast of Rhode Island to New Jersey to be currently 54°F. Delaware Bay and most northern tip of Delaware has a current sea surface temperature of 55°F. The coast of Delaware is stratified with the northern portion currently being 55°F, the middle being 58°F, and the south being 60°F. Chesapeake Bay and the water off the east coast of Pamlico Sound is currently 64°F. The water inside of Pamlico Sound is currently 68°F. Moving off coast, there is a warm water eddy off the coast of Delaware that is carrying water that is currently 60°F. There is a second warm water eddy off the coast of North Carolina that is carrying slightly warmer water at 63°F. There is a high water system off the coast of Rhode Island that is currently 15 cm above sea level. There is a low water system in the coast of Delaware Bay that is currently -10 cm below sea level. There is a high water system off the coast of northern North Carolina that is currently 15 cm above sea level. There are high levels of phytoplankton productivity along the north Atlantic coast with higher levels in the protected inlets and bays.
