The coast of Rhode Island to New Jersey is currently 50°F, with slightly warmer waters off the coast of Cape Map, New Jersey. Moving southward the coast of Delaware warms to 52°F. Creating a front, a wall of water warms the tip of Delaware, Chesapeake Bay, and the east side of Pamlico Sound to 58°F. The coast of Pamlico Sound varies between 64°F in the north and 68°F in the south. Moving off coast, there are four warm water eddies due east of Delaware, all carrying 63°F water temperatures towards the shore. The coast of Norfolk Canyon there are two warm water eddies carrying 65°F, also moving towards the shoreline. The chlorophyll image shows high productivity along the coastline and within the inlets. There are higher areas of productivity within the inlets and bays, and relatively lower levels of productivity along the open coastlines. There is a high water system off the coast of Block Island and Rhode Island that is currently 15 cm above sea level. The remaining coastline is relatively flat, except for a low water system in the Delaware Bay that is currently -10 cm below sea level.
