Sit down Shut up And fish
Sea Isle City Blackfish and Ocean Stripers - 12/30/11, 1/1/12
I fished with some friends on Friday for some blackfishin' off Sea Isle and had a great day with beautiful weather for this time of year. With the water temps still hanging around 48-50 degrees we opted to try some sangs close to the inlet in about 60 foot of water. We only had to move once all day as it was non-stop drop and reel fishing for the togs. Green crabs, fresh clam and conch did the trick. There were lots of short fish around but we did manage a great catch of fish to 20". Plenty of fun on light tackle to go around for the whole crew. The best part was we only seen 2 boats fishing around us all day.
We laid up on New Years Eve but I got a report of a new school of bass showing up off Sea Isle and my buddy was on them all day Saturday by himself. He ended up with 18 fish on the troll with a bunch of keeper size fish up to 35" and only a handful of shorts. This report encouraged all of our friends that still have boats in the water so on New Years day we were all back after it. The bite had slowed a little bit but we did manage 7 fish with only 1 keeper. Our other friends managed to also box a handful of Stripers making for a great day to break in the new year. I am hoping the next couple days of cold weather will send those fish to the North our way for a few more shots at them. We should be fishing until the weather runs us out of town or there is nothing left to catch around here.
