The last couple of days the weather was almost spring like and the wind wasn't blowing. The ice has cleared out of Collins Cove. These conditions allowed a couple of anglers to work the Mullica River and Collins Cove and other favorite tributaries off the river for White Perch. Surprisingly enough, even after all the cold, the catching is worthy of the effort. It's nothing on fire, but any action in January is a bonus.
On a day like today, we used to see a few anglers gearing up to fish the Power Plant bridge in Waretown. Now that flounder season and striper season is closed, we don't even see those anglers in January anymore.

Fishing Report:
First want 2 say thanx 4 providing links to Captain Howard’s and Absecon Sportsman--first class action, told Captain Howard about the link and plug, he really appreciated it. Fished the cove today by boat, still plenty of nice perch. Ice melting fast, receded about 40 feet in the couple hours we fished. Still learning. Use frozen shrimp all the time. Does not work in winter, something about the smell does not travel in cold water. Using minnow bucket and small pump to keep shrimp alive, working great. Kept shrimp alive for 3 days this week, got about 12 perch(six nice ones)in less then 2 hours today. Using rigs with 7 little hooks somebody shared with me last week. Forget what they are called, but working great 4 perch-put 1 shrimp on each hook, fish a couple cranks off bottom with 1 oz. If u miss a hit or 2 can leave it in knowing u still have a few hooks still baited. Only good if u r dropping str8 down. Also probably will not hold anything to big, but working great 4 perch!
~Bruce Gehringer Live shrimp is best in the winter, as you figured out. Those multi-hook rigs are probably some type of sabiki rig, great for straight up and down fishing for perch and herring. ~ MizMo
