Headed out Sat and hit the Hambone area looking for some bluefins. After a few hours of trolling around and not marking any bait we wound them up and headed to the poorman's. Since there was no good sat shots for a few days we were in the blind looking for the warm water. Finally found it around 10:00 am in 1000 fathoms. Nice blue water whales, bait, but the yellowfins were completely absent. Had a few mahi come in then around 1:00 whitey showed up to play. She pulled up to the dredge and grabbed the flat line naked. After a quick strip she dropped that bait and circled around and hit the long rigger. Again ran for a second but couldn't get the steel into her. Oh well it was good to see one anyway. I'll chalk it up to early season jitters.
Fished for a couple more hours and decided to wind it up. On the way in we hit the fog at about the Hot Dog and it never let up until we pulled into the slip. 50 miles of staring at the radar screen will really work on ya! About 12 miles out I get a call on the radio that there is a tornado on the ground in Georgetown and it is headed out way with 80 mph winds and golf ball sized hail.As luck would have it we pulled into the slip, tied up and cleaned up and the storm fizzled out.
