We went out Sat. 5/23 to get some bluefish, then set up for sharks. I was on my buddy's 29' Hydra-Sport. Started trolling the Jackspot for bluefish. Nothing; one bird, no bait, no marks. A couple of boats were there. Didn't see any hook-ups. Water temp in the 58*-59* range. Trolled across the Fingers, nothing. No birds, no marks, nothing. Picked up & ran to the Hambone. Draggers, birds, & turtles were everywhere. Started getting knock-downs almost immediately. Nice 10-lb. choppers. Water temps 59.7* - 59.9*. Went 8 for 9, & headed to the Middle Sausage for sharks. We got a nice slick set, but it was a little later in the day than I liked. We didn't get a nibble for a few hours, & the crew was battle-weary & falling alseep. The Capt. decided to call it a day at around 2:30, as some of the crew had to drive home to Rockville that night.
In summary, the seas & weather were great. Once we found the fish, the fishing was good. The sharking was a half-assed attempt, at best.
Way to go,, we are takin my boat down to OC this weekend from Annapolis, gonna look for bait to hook a shark.
know where there might be some threshers near inshore?
