NJ SANDY HOOK ASA 2009 -BEACH REPORT

After a spectacular day on the water on Friday, Sat was set out to kick azz and take names amongst all

Sat morning I was greeted by thick fog running up the garden state parkway to get the boat in the water for another fishing day.

Upon arrival the fog was way worse than it was during my drive. The fog limited us to a 50' visibility and was seriously putting a damper on us running around trying to pick up fresh live bait for the wells.

After some scouting for bait we called it quits and followed HappiDaze to the tournament check out to pick up our guests and some ice to start making the day happen.

The day before there was no burning down the beach to where the bite and bait has been on fire with the crew we had on board but Sat was fair game. After loading up the last little bit boat 16 was checked out and ready to go.

In talking to the rest of the boats the morning of and later in the day we had 5 boats scattered from Sandy Hook to Manasquan. We really wanted to burn it up and hit Island Beach State Park but the thick for and lots of little boats with out any radar running around out front didn't make for a safe bet.

After running for a while and keeping an eye on the time and lines in was in at 7am and at 7:15 we dropped the throttles back to set the spoons and stretches out and head up the hunt on the troll at the shrewsbury rocks in 50-60' of water.

After pounding the area all morning have all the right signs conditions outside of the fog, notta sniff notta bite NOTTA.

With depression starting to set in, I started with the phone calls to all the other boats fishing. We had some fishing clams, fishing live, and fishing dead all over at Romer, at Breezy, in Long Island all over NO ONE was doing shit all morning not a blue not a bite NOTTA!

After some time of making phone calls to the other boats all over and learning the fishy's are having lock jaw from NY to VA. I knew if anything was going to happen would be on the spin of the tide. Like clock work on the spin of the tide, we started picking at the blues, and then came the bass. We had 3 bass up to 22 lbs, If one had the girth and the length of the other fish, we certainly would of made it happen more than we did.

16 out of 30 boats caught fish, 7 of them from Contenders smallest fish was 8.45 and the largest was 38.45

Congrats to Tiffany Anne with thier big fish due to the ASA rules and membership requirement them not being ASA competition members lost them calcuttas and top female angler awards...So thanks!!

Its truely nice to see that people are taking more care to live releases. I think the species is further depleated than the paid people think. Eat or Release!

Nice job Mary. I was out in that crap and almost got split in half twice by boats running wide open with no radar. It amazes me how dumb some people can be. Its to bad the fishing has been shitty so far, although I put a long skinny 27 LBer in the boat yesterday. I think the fishing is starting to break open now. Next time you are up this way you should give me a shout. Perseverance channel 65.
