Sandy Hook Area In September?
My boss however wants to take his grandkids on some kind of run to do some generalized rod bending. Lastr week we ran to the mud hole and whacked the poo out if false albies and skip jacks... That was indeed fun but these kids are a touch young for the long trip we have getting there. Hell its over an hour to the hook with bridges and another hour twenty just to get to monster ledge area... I could take em in the river for weakies but I think the boss wants to get them on the big boat for some kind of adventure. So with fluke being closed by the time this trip takes place, what else could we go for that these youngins might enjoy... Don't want to get to far from home as they have never been out and the thought of getting them sick and no quick retreat doesn't sit well. Anything in the bay or reaches that time of year? Pretty sure that we'd be too early for bass but woud consider other options. Do the falsies come in tight to shore then? Maybe spanish? |

Blus at the rocks
You should not have trouble finding hungry Blues at the Rocks. Lots of Snapper in the bay. Not sure about Spanish and ALbies. Good Luck. DOes not look like a great forecast for taking the kids.

Your options are limited
You can do the reach for some weakfish... but thats hit or miss at best. Bluefish at Roamer....
There is always the reef or the rocks for some sea bass, porgies, and a blackfish or two. I do have a great Porgie spot over by the rockaway reef that hasn't ever let me down for nonstop pullage for the little ones. The kids love the non-stop action and the porgie is a ferocious predator Let me know if thats what you want to do and I can give you the digits. |

I don't know if the croakers are up your way yet, but they can be a lot of fun with endless rod bending.

I know it will be catch and release but weakfishing in the reach with peanuts can produce some nice fluke this time of year. I have a feeling there might be a few boats "weakfishing" there for the next month

Got the boss smoothed out. The weakie spot I have up river is nonstop or at least shoud be in a couple weeks and I know the kids will love it... Only a few hundred yards from where we keep the small boat so easy to go in if they need to use the rest room or maybe go get lunch...
I think we picked about 130 fish to about 4 pounds there last year in a day and a half. A couple dozen slab porgies added to the mix. Maybe a dozen sea robins and half a dozen fluke mixed in. |

If your gonna run outside on the bigger boat go for sea bass, 70-90 ft seems to be hot off the beaches, tons of action to be had, great for little kids, although that weakfish hole sounds like a great idea. Weakfishing in the bay is slow over all, very inconsistent so far, but the blow might have changed things, did some recon last week with no luck...worked the reach for hours....soo boring...should have went fluking instead
.Out for bluefin tommorrow, will let ya know how we do Deep!! |

Boss has me busting out the crowbar and prying ourselves off the dock to try the halfway spots for bluefins tomorrow too... Ought to be interesting. My mate can't make it... Last year they had to do this trip without me and scored big. My turn to go without him...
