The winter weather pattern that has most us enduring frigid temps and piles of snow measured by the feet has a very similar pattern to last year's winter record breaking season. On the upside, striper season will open in the backbay as of March 1st [ only about 30days away] not that I am expecting the bay to be teaming with striper action at that time but it helps to think positively, and if last year's weather pattern is similar to this year's weather I am expecting [hoping] for a mild late March and a warm April [again thinking positively].

Last April was one of the best early season striper bites that I can remember, we caught stripers through out the month starting April 1st with stripers ranging from in size from 16-35" with some even larger fish that had straighten the hooks out on our artificials! Fishing the back bays crystal clear 2-3ft tidal flats with surface popping plugs was a light tackle enthusiast dream with schools of marauding stripers visible in the shallow depths! These early April trips are a great cure for cabin fever and a great way to get the 2011 fishing season started.

I will be running Friday Night At The Fights through out the month of April and May as well from 4-8 pm for private or open charters, hope you can join us! For those interested in the month of May's fishing, I only have May 12th still available. THINK SPRING!
