Really bad Black Drum Fishing in the PM the last few days

Got out for today for afternoon trip into the evening and that was a big waste of time and money. Pretty harsh statement but it is what it is. Fished parts of both tides and it made no difference and it was some of the worst Drum fishing I have experienced in many years. Sharks, Skates and Horse Shoe crabs doing the wild thing that pretty much sums of yesterday afternoon and evening on the Delaware Bay. We were in contact by cell with some of the best drum fishermen on the bay and they all experienced pretty the same results we did and we all moved around to different locations trying to find some hungry drum and nobody we talked to did. We did not hear one decent report in 9 hours of fishing yesterday. This included the Delaware side as well as the New Jersey side. I know a few boats that caught maybe one or two very small ones but that was it. For the last two days there has been a nice bite in the am but very few fish caught after that. Just a few days some boats had 12-20 fish in the afternoon and night but it changed overnight. Fished all the popular locations along side boats that had done great a day ago but hardly anything the last two day in the afternoon. On top of that the fish are all puppies barely making 15 lbs with an occasional one over 40 lbs but not many. Hoping after this full moon passes things will get back to normal. Not much better on the striper front either but that is another story. I am sure the bigger ones will be showing up real soon and just possibly the bigger drum are breeding on the full moon or the water is too dirty form all the rain we had late last week which caused massive amounts of silk to be washed into the bay. Who really knows but in past years the first full moon in May produced some the great fishing both on big stripers and Black Drum. Geting out in the early am on the incoming tide is the ticket and this is the only time that I know of when there was a decent bite but again they are some of the smallest Black Drum you will ever see. The drum are so small and biting ever so light you probably would do better using a hand line than a rod and reel but then I can guarantee one of those 60-90 lb drum would jump on your hand line. Mother Nature still has a few tricks up her sleeve but I do believe things will get back to normal any day now as we move off the full moon.

It was tough for us yesterday as well. We moved all around and was not able to find anything on the outgoing tide and managed 2 pups on the last 2 hours of the incoming last night. Once 10:00 rolled around and the tide was done the drum grounds thinned out real quick. We were lucky to dodge all of the storms brewing in the distance, that always has me on edge a little bit when I see that much lightning. I am hoping in the next two weeks, once this weather calms down a little we will start seeing some better fish move in. My only concern is that things warm up too quick and the quality fish end up in the Chesapeake. This happened for the stripers on the flats this year. We never saw the good numbers of big fish. Everything happened to the South as they saw some of the best fishing they have had in years.
