Raritan bay Fluke Anglers Chartity Tournament results

On Saturday July 17, 2010 The 20th Annual Raritan Bay Anglers Club Charity Fluke Tournament was held out of
the beautiful Perth Amboy Harborside Marina. The club would like to thank Mayor Wilda Diaz of Perth Amboy for her support
of our annual event and to all the departments in the city that support us on Tournament Day, Marina Staff, Police, and
The Perth Amboy Port Authority.
104 Boats were entered in our event with 350 plus anglers participating.
At the weigh station Our Weighmaster Adolph "Ace" Florczak recorded 18 boats weighing in fish with Herman and Kevin Young of Hamilton, New Jersey the earliest at 11:40 am with a 5.19 lb fluke caught by Kevin in Raritan Bay on their boat "Fish For Brains". They had 30 throwbacks and just a few keepers.
First Place went to Michael Zawistowski of Bayonne New Jersey, Mike was the second boat to weigh in at 3:00 PM with his 9.64 lb fluke that would hold up over 16 other weigh-ins to win the $ 3005.00 first place prize money.
This is the first win for Mike's team after three previous entries in our event.
Mike fished with Jeff and 8 year old Adam Orzepowski of Gillette New Jersey on his boat The Grace M and caught his winning fluke in Ambrose Channel on Gulp and Squid combo. The team also reported 2 other New York keepers and plenty of throwbacks with Adam leading the way.
Second Place went to Tom Lichnack of Linden New Jersey. Tom fished with Mike Wells of Pt Pleasant Boro and Bill Milller of Cliffwood on Mike's boat the " TNT". The team reported 16 New Jersey keepers over 20 shorts fishing The Shrewsbury Rocks area.
Tom's 7.66lb. second place winning fluke paid $ 1370.00 and was caught on a bucktail. Team TNT recorded 2 other wins in our annual event.
Third Place went to Chris Smolka of Staten Island NY. Chris fished with his Dad ,Tom Smolka and Tom Verdarosa on Tom's boat Top Notch.
Chris's winning 6.99 lb. fluke came from Ambrose Channel on a Squid and Spearing combination. Team Smolka reported only 2 other New York keepers with over 35 throwbacks many over the 18 inch New Jersey size limit.
Third Place paid $885.00, this is the second win for Team Smolka in six previous entries in our event.
Fourth Place went to Dick Larsen of Staten Island New York. Dick fished with Vito Manzi of Morganville, Don Coward ,Anthony Balisario of Staten Island and Max Dallorso on Vito's boat the Kelly-Ann .This is the third win for Manzi's team, placing in 2004 and 2005 and 15years of participating
in our annual event.
Dick's 6.94 lb. fluke was caught in the Sea Bright area on a bucktail and paid $ 575.00. The team also reported 9 other keeper fluke and 20 plus throwbacks.
The weigh Station received 18 boats weighing in fluke from Mike Zawistowski's 9.64lbs. down to Ron Nicol of Colonia N.J. 3.36lbs. fluke.
Ron finally caught a keeper fluke after 5 years participation in our annual event.
Other teams reported many throwbacks on either side of the state boundary and many fish just a half inch short of the limits Tony Trigg of
Port Monmouth had a 6.32lb. fluke. Al and Mike Hrehowsik of Middletown and Michelle Niedbala of Hazlet had 6 keeper fluke up to 3.93 lbs. and over 50 throwbacks on their vessel The Rosie Jay.
The Club would like to thank all contestants for their participation for the last 20 years with a special mention to Capt. Joe Bocchino of Bayonne and his crew on the boat Looney Bin who has been in all 20 tournaments and to all the new comers to our event. It the sportsmanship that is shown each year that make our tournament a true friends and family event.
