Raritan Bay

The bass are chewin.

Get out there now boys and girls. A new group of fish have arrived and they are all nice size. 25-35# with some larger ones mixed in. Heard of a 47#er that was caught yesterday morning.

We had over 30 bass each of the last two nights.

All on the chunk. Fish the heads folks.

Fished both nights from around 5pm to 1am. Tuesday was quite a light show. We were the only boat out there and had them all to ourselves.

Back at it again tonight.

Does anyone out there know a good divorce attorney?

Will post pictures as soon as I can.

I wish that I can say I have been a part of this action...

We have been out almost 3 times a week since late April and as sad as it sounds we have not landed uno striped bass. I think that I am going to start a new book; how not to catch bass is Raritan Bay!!!!

Send me a PM Brother. Let's see if we can change your luck.

They have been chewin!!!!

Where have you been fishing?
What time of day?
What bait?
How deep?
What kind of rigs?
Are you letting them take the bait and run with it for a 5 count before crossing their eyes?

I only have one picture. This is an average size fish that we have been catching. There were some slobs mixed in as well.

I have to get better at taking a couple of seconds to take more pictures.

Also a shot of the sunset over the Raritan Bay.

I love the spring run.

Man that is a nice fish......

Thanks for helping out; for just a regualr guy we have put close to 50 hours on the boat so far this spring with nothing for the table.

Where have you been fishing - We have been fishing the NW of Old Orchard as well as the NW side of Rommer Light.
What time of day?- All times; morning, evening, night. If at all poosible I typically try and target the incoming tide. I leave the dock almost every weekday by 6pm or so.
What bait? Earlier in the seasons Clams - Now Bunker, Bunker, Bunker. We typically will fish fresh (heads and chunks) and chunk frozen).
How deep?18-25 ft.
What kind of rigs? 5' of fluro leader; a 7 or 8/0 Gamatzu cricle hook with a fish finder rig.
Are you letting them take the bait and run with it for a 5 count before crossing their eyes? We are pretty good about letting them run before reeling tight with the circle hook.

Sounds like everything your doing is right on line.

I didn't consider circle hooks, so I guess "crossing their eyes" wouldn't come into play.

We don't use any frozen bait at all and chum pretty hard with what is left over from the heads that we are using for bait. Chum is cut up into very small pcs. You will have to work thru the blues to get the bass in the area.

It seems like the bass really aren't biting untill the sun goes down. (the mad dog bite anyway) We do get a few in the light but the majority of the bass are after dark.

I can't understand why you haven't been killing them with that much time on the water.

Are you netting your own bait? Fresh is the ticket! Some of the shops that claim that their bait is fresh could be pulling your leg.

Are they covered with slime?
