Question for the VA guys!

Since we are running charters thru March there, what is the best time of the year to catch Snowy Grouper?
Capt Tim & I wanted to try and get out for some of them while we are down.
Thanks in advance!

They are there now, so I hear. Problem is the freakin dogs are thick now. I was tile fishing last Sunday and we had a 15 to 1 dog to keeper tile/seabass ratio at 50 fathoms. I went deeper to the curve dropping on some potential grouper holes and pulled up nothing but dogs with each drop. They are just everywhere and just so aggressive that even if you are dropping in a good grouper or tile hole, them dogs get your bait first. There are some dog free or dog not so thick areas, just have to work to find them. Me, I'm going to wait until the dogs at least start to move off. Good luck.

Thanks guys!
We are having the same problem up here fishing for Tiles, but when we moved into 650+ feet of water the dogs slowed down biting quite a bit!

I just got done talking to Jim the Capt of the Jill Carrie and he said the same thing about the dogs! He says he's going off tomorrow to give it shot again, we gave him some numbers and hints to help him land some Golden Tiles. Looks like we might be waiting till Spring!
Thanks for the help!

BTW, while Bass fishing today we landed another 50+ lb Bass! Which we released! Then fished the CBBT for some C/R and caught over 80 fish!Pictures to come when I get back home!

Jim called me up after you guys chatted with him yesterday. Man you got him some kind of fired up, not that it takes much to do that. How long are you down for? I'd love to stop by the dock and chat, or even better go fishing!!!
Give me a ring if you have some time to kill and we'll swap some stories over a beer or a soda. 757-869-0551

We catch the snowies pretty much year round, but it is a lot easier when the doggies aren't around. The main problem I have is when we have founf them, they have always been in with wreck fish, so you get one or the other and then you're done because of the Va regs.

We are leaving in the morning unless the weather is good enough to move the boat to another marina. Maybe next time we're down. I'd love to chat over dinner or something! Jim was pretty cool, we gave him some #'s for Seabass & told him our tricks & what to look for on catching the Goldens. He wasn't back in yet when we got back.

Did pretty good yesterday, the guys wanted to catch Bass so that's what we did both days! (Wasn't good enough weather to go off) Yesterday we caught one 50+ Bass and a couple that came unbuttoned then went to C/R under the bridge and the guys probably caught over 100 and today we caught one 44+ and 2 more swings & a miss and about 85 under the bridge. All Bass were released! There were all sizes at the bridge from 12" to 40"
I'll post some pics when I get back!

BTW, if you hear from Jim let me know how he made out! 267-278-4299
Thanks Graceland, I'll give you a shout on my way home.

Jim usually gives me a yell on his way in, so it will be around 9 or so unless he is running late.

Weather looks rough until Thursday afternoon, but Friday is looking like a possible shot for some offshore fun.
