Water Temperature (WTMP): 72.9°F
We had a number of flounder weighed in this week. Surf was up and down with
sharks and some kingfish. Nighttime bridge fishing was excellent. Oceanic
Pier had a good week on flounder. At night the shad and blues were biting
most of the time. Some nights were better than others. Inlet fishing saw
flounder, stripers, and tautog. The first triggerfish were reported was the
inlet wall and at the South Jetty. Offshore action was sea bass, sharks,
and tuna!

We heard of sharks, rays, some kingfish, and some snapper blues in the surf.
Anglers should use small hooks and bloodworms or artificial bloodworm
combined with a little strip of clam, mullet, bunker, or squid fillet. For
sharks, bunker fillet or whole squid on a larger hook. Finger mullet for
bluefish.
Assateague surf had a lot of sharks and a few kingfish. Possum posted on
Stripers Online on Wednesday: "Went out hoping for a few Kingfish...maybe a
nice Flounder and ended up pulling on big sharks all day...sharkorama
haha...
seemed kinda early but the water was very warm...
lots of fun!!"
Looking at Stripers Online site, I saw LOTS of pictures of sharks. Also the
same from Delaware surf. LOTS of sharks and big rays. Anglers were having a
ball! (As long as you are into catching and release big sandbar and dusky
sharks! Come on! More kingfish!
Chris Carey from Chambersburg, Pa came into Fenwick Tackle last Sunday to
weigh in a 1 pd 3 oz Kingfish he caught on Bloodworms from Fenwick Island
Beach.
His picture is in our Delaware
Photo Gallery.
Many anglers ask about reading the beach when surf fishing. "Poppy" a very
good angler has posted another very good description with pictures on
Stripers Online. Check it out:
Reading the Beach He draws it out completely! If you're not catching
fish in the surf, you need to study this!

Route 50 Bridge was still good on blues and some stripers at night. There
were a couple night when anglers did excellent on the stripers. Then other
nights it was all bluefish. Stripers were hitting 5 and 6-inch Swimming Shad
Lures, Fin-S Fish soft bodies on lead heads, along with 2-ounce Gotcha
Plugs. Blues were hitting Got-cha Plugs and Spec Rigs.
Tautog. The tautog were biting really good at the South Jetty this week for
anglers in boats. Anglers from the jetty caught some tautog and triggerfish.
Tautog were also caught along the bulkhead in Ocean City and on the Rt. 50
Bridge near the draw. Tautog bite green crabs and live or frozen sand
crabs. Tautog season is open in MD, but closed in DE. We are allowed to keep
two tautog, 14-inches or over in MD. Tautog also bite at the Inlet and
Oceanic Pier.
We at Oyster Bay saw some nice sized flounder this week. Barb Landis of
Warrington, Pa e-mailed in her picture of a 21" flounder on Sunday, 6/13
just north of the RT 50 bridge from their boat the OFF-DUTY. She also had a
19" on Saturday. She was fishing with her husband, J.R. Dan McElroy of
Royersford, PA came into Oyster Bay with a 20-inch flounder he caught at the
South Jetty on Tuesday. Brian K Prettyman of Baltimore, MD came in with a 24
1/4 inch, 4 1/4 pound flounder he caught from the 9th Street Pier on a live
minnow on Saturday. That's a nice flounder caught from the shore! Bevan
Connell of South Bethany Beach, DE came into Fenwick Tackle with a 4-pound
one- ounce flounder, 21 1/2 inches long, caught in the Main East Channel in
Ocean City on a squid and minnow sandwich on Saturday. Colleen Shoemaker of
Centreville, VA was happy to bring in a 3 pound 22-inch flounder into
Oyster Bay that she caught in the Convention Hall Channel on minnow and
gulp, also on Saturday. Mike McGarvey fished the OC South Jetty on Sunday
and caught a 19 1/2 inch Flounder while using minnows as bait.
All these pictures are in our Photo Gallery under Bay and
Inshore Photos.
We had a really nice flounder weighed in at Fenwick Tackle caught from the
Indian River Inlet! David Grise of Selbyville, DE came in with a 5 pound 2
1/2 ounce flounder, 24-inches long caught in the Indian River Bay on a big
shiner on Friday. His picture is in our Delaware
Photo Gallery.
Also in our Delaware Gallery is Chris Carey from Chambersburg, Pa with a 1
pd 3 oz Kingfish caught on Bloodworms from Fenwick Island Beach last Sunday!
Nick of the Get Sum is doing
charters for tog, flounder and stripers.
Capt. Bobby Gower of the " Bay Bee
reports a really good week of flounder fishing. Between Wednesday and
Saturday all trips had between 50 and 103 throwbacks. Some days, between
both trips they had between 5 and 8 keepers, except for Saturday when they
had lots of throwbacks but no keepers. Action was non-stop just outside the
inlet with short flounders!
Capt. "Skip" Doug Mcguire also charters in the bay. Here's his report for
this week: "On Skip's Charter boat this week we had an amazing week of
fishing! From
catching the first triggerfish of the season to our banner trip today it has
been a memory making week! Right now the striper bite is off the hook, and
the fish
are healthy, we fish everyday and know exactly where they are biting!
On Thursday Ritz went out on a two hour mix bag adventure and caught a nice
keeper flounder which made for a nice dinner and had several under sized
flounder also.
On Friday Joe Aita went out fishing on a two hour striper charter and was
rewarded with several fish one of which made it to the cooler!
On Saturday Joel Grubb from New Providence and Justin Tice from Quarryville
PA
went fishing with us, they caught and released at least a dozen stripers and
brought a real nice 30 in striper to the dock.
As a father's Day Present Paul and Kaylee Corraine who live in
Ocean City part time caught about 20 fish three of which were keepers
measuring
29, 30, 31 inches. We also lost some really nice fish right at the boat, it
seems like there are some bigger fish moving in on the jetty. Lets hope they
stay around for a while.
This week will be some great tides for afternoon charters, we still have
some openings this week. Give me a call on my cell to book a light tackle
striper trip on the south jetty. Its non-stop action with some rod bending,
drag burning action. We specialize on making fishing trips of a life
time.......Just ask Paul and Kaylee! Check out all the pictures on our new
