On to the fishing report - The weather is great but we cannot say the same for the fishing. The one bright spot to report is a good flounder bite in the Inlet and out south east of B Buoy (8 miles east of Indian River Inlet). Gulp baits in white or pink on a lead head or bucktail have been extremely effective in the Inlet from the rocks and the boats. Capt Jim Ruback of Virginia Lee Charters reported 15 flounder - mostly throwbacks - from the Burtons Island drift. All on white Gulp. Spro bucktails with a long strip of are good out around B Buoy in 85-90 feet of water. George Nueberger on the Double G reported a limit of flounder up to 25 iches on the Old Grounds (the area southeast on B Buoy towards A Buoy). Heat and boat traffic have made the stripers nocturnal feeders. What few fish that have been caught are hitting live eels, black bucktails and dark swim shads. The incoming tide has been the most productive. A few bluefish in the mix on the daytime incoming tide. No croakers yet. Still slow on the beach. We did hear about a few spot and bluefish on the beach south of the Inlet. Its has to improve any day now. Where are the kingfish? Fresh bunker is available. Tog season has reopened. Live fleas and green crabs are available. Black drum are starting to bite along the rocks. Old Inlet Bait and Tackle Rehobeth Beach, DE www.oldinlet.com |
