INDIAN RIVER INLET FISHING REPORT
September 20th, 2010

This just in:

Charlie Heite (Millville) weighed a 6 pound trout. It hit a red and white bucktail on the south wall by the campground.

Keith Broyles (Hay Market VA) weighed a 20 pound striper from the Inlet.

A thought for Monday -

Does anyone find it confusing, odd and/or contradictory that Delaware flounder season will be closing on October 13 even though we have been granted a 20 plus % increase in the quota for 2011? Why is the season closing early this year when the stock is in such good shape? You can thank the Delaware Bay charter boat bunch for claiming "nothing happens at the beach in the fall" at the public hearing back in March.

Feels like Fall out there. The best fishing of the year is here.

The mullet run is on and there is also plenty of peanut bunker around. Some locals have commented that this is the most peanut bunker they have seen in some time.

Striper fishing in the Inlet is improving. The bite has picked up during the day and night, but it is still mostly short fish.

The good action in the Inlet has been on the bluefish. Incoming tide during the day. 4-5 pounders!!

The flounder are starting to migrate out of the bay. Croakers and flounder should be just off the beach in 20-40 feet of water.

Tautog season is closed in Delaware waters from September 1 through the 28th. We are still stocking sand fleas and green crabs for those that want to make the run to Ocean City.

Don't let the tautog closure get you down. There are still triggerfish, sheepshead and black drum around.

Snapper blues on the beach up to 19 inches. Fresh whole finger mullet are the ticket!!
