INDIAN RIVER INLET FISHING REPORT
August 4th, 2011
Sorry for the long delay between reports. Quite busy.
Is it really August already? Fishing has been pretty good even with the Dog Days of summer upon us. It will be interesting to see how the storm that is going to pass by offshore during the weekend effects things. The surf is already choppy.
But, remember the stripers love sloppy water and the lower temps expected over the weekend may turn the daytime bite back on. Right now its a nighttime bite with black and purple plugs doing the trick. Old Inlet Night Manager Eddie Heite had fish up to 32" this week after dark on the incoming water.
There are some nice blues moving through the Inlet during the day and the Asian contingent says there are a few keeper tog in the mix as well.
There has been a fleet of boats working from the end of the north rockpile out to the green can most mornings. Croakers, we assume but do not have any confirmation.
Plenty of shore flounder around right now. But then again it is August. Bigger fish are only a few weeks away.
Kings and spot on the beach. Some are eatin size. Anita Chandler had two flounder over 21" on Fenwick last weekend.
Good luck to all of the boats participating in the Ocean City White Marlin Open. The fish are here so it should be an eventful week. If you have never been to the weigh-in, do yourself a favor and go. It is a true spectacle.
Joe VanSant and crew went 2-5 for on whites just south of the tip of the Baltimore Canyon earlier this week.
