Offshore Sharking with Pics
To get away from the heat we went for an offshore trip on the 5th of July. The wife wanted to try her hand at sharking so, my buddy Rich, his wife, daughter, and my wife headed for the same area (east of the Glory) as last week’s trip. We got out pretty early and I was surprised to see such cold water (67 degrees) on most of the ride out. As we got to the area the clarity was better and the temperature came up to 71 degrees. We set up our drift and within fifteen minutes we had our first shark a small brown. It must have been a brown shark convention because we had six throughout the day, with just one Hammerhead circling us, but never taking our bait. We also had a steady pick of blue fish in the slick. Saw two Mahi Mahi for about thirty seconds and never saw them again. Pulled lines at 1:00 pm and came home in just over an hour with such flat seas. Saw a Finback Whale on the way in as well as running into a Pod of dolphins crashing Bunker two miles off of Belmar. All in all a beautiful cool day offshore and hooked up all three women with their first shark catch. Great day to be and living in the America. God bless the USA
