Daily Fishing Report From Captain Bobby Quinn

3-8-11 We had some real decent ocean conditions today, especially for March. We started picking at some fish early this morning, nothing great just a pick here and there.Moved around a bit and started seeing some whales and some decent shots of bait, birds diving, really looked fishy.Came across some monster readings and anchored on a pile of stuff which came fifteen feet off the bottom,on an open area of bottom which I figured was just more bait but looked a little different. Then for the next couple of hours we pulled on Codfish like I have never seen before.Singles, double headers, could have easily had triples if you let it stay down long enough.Ran around with the net for a while but most guys just started lifting them over the rail, even fish over 10 lbs.which we would always wait for the net came flying over.Biggest fish went about 16-18 lbs.The best drop and reel fishing I have seen besides Sea Bass in the fall, high hooks had over a sea bass limit. Most guys caught as many as they could reel in and take home and we called it a day.Montauk fishing at its best and only 7 miles from my inlet. If Hemmingway could have wrote a story out of a Codfish trip in Jersey, today would have been the day.I have some pics coming up,just did not have time to take many pictures while we were fishing.

3-5-11 The ocean stayed nice for us most of the day.The ground swell was growing by the time we made our last stop the ocean started to get a bit nasty, but overall it was a decent day.The fish were biting again, good amount of short cod spread around the boat and some real nice keeper size cod with the largest fish of the day going around 25 lbs.High hook had five keeper cod along with some shorts, and around the boat we had everything in between.Three of the nicer fish today went over 20 lbs.!!!Some of the nicest fish we have seen all season. Some ling mixed in with the catch along with some eels and lots of dogs.Check out some of the pics.Tomorrow is a wash, high winds and seas along with heavy rain will keep us at the dock.
