Ocean Explorer Fishing report , Belmar 1-8

1-8-12 Another nice day on the water with warm temps, and calm seas.We did not have the crowd like yesterday,I guess alot were home watching football. It was a shame cause it is not often you get a stretch of weather like this in January.I hope it continues.A jumbo Blackfish seems to me is going to take the pool money again today.I would guess it went between 11-12 lbs.I will find out when I get in but it was a good one.Blackfish Bobby and his son Rj caught there limit of Togs and even some more to help some other customers who did not have some.Few other nice ones scattered around the boat.Bobby had a couple of Moose fish that he broke off, said they were very large!!!We have seen alot of nice fish that one the battle this week.We got some nice Cod to today but I dont think they were big enough to take the pool but still nice. Not many, just a handful.Ling were decent in spots,I saw quite a few ling come up,some customers did better than others with them but still quite a few scattered around the boat as well which is good considering the limit for blackfish is only four fish now.It gives people a chance to take home some other meat instead of only four blackfish. If your lucky like a few today they had a triple crown,Tog,Cod,and Ling.I only fished today for five or ten minutes and again those ling were hammering the gulp baits.I think I saw the glow shrimp work even better for someone today.Well we will be back at it again tomorrow. So if you want to take a crack at some Togs,or Cod or Ling, come on down.Weather looks awesome!!!Check out some of the nice fish from today.

This fish took home the largest pool ever on the boat.1,025 bucks for both pools today.Yes,thats correct, one thousand twenty five!!!!!Fish weighed in at 13lbs.We had some other nice fish as well,a Cod just missed beating this Tog out.Few other Togs between 6-9lbs.were in the running for a while until this came up.Scattered other Togs around the boat, along with a handful of keeper Cods.Ling made up alot of the catch today,we did not get into a good blackfish chew, just some quality ones.In the end we had a nice day, just a large crowd split the catch up a bit,but alot went home with some nice fillets.Check out some of the other nice fish below.Looks real nice for tomorrow! Are you going!!!

1-6-12 They called for some gusty winds today but they were wrong, again.Real nice day condition wise.WARM!!!Deccent ocean, not bad current, and believe it or not,no dogfish today. The mixed bag fishing we had yesterday was waiting for us again. The ling were hungry,if you were a savy linger you would have had no problem filling a bucket up with some of these. Some codfish filled in some gaps, some even had two keeper cods. And to round it off we had the blackfisherman slugging away at the Togs. The big Togs were not chewing like yesterday, you had to work at it today to get your limit, but a few guys did have the limit.Few had three, two etc...Biggest went about five pounds I would guessCouple of people even had the triple crown,Keeper Tog,Keeper Cod,and some Ling..Overall a nice day with different catches scattered around the boat.Again I was fishing the gulp baits for the ling, and on everydrop it was almost drop and reel fishing. They were hungry for those ghost shrimp.Caught some on clams to.Tomorrow looks awesome!!!along with sunday!!!Come down and get in on some great fishing and great weather.Check out some pics.See ya tomorrow.

1-5-12 Made it out to the deeper water today and was pleased with what waited for us on the bottom.Every drop we made yielded some good shots of ling and some large blackfish.Mixed in with that we had some Codfish, both keepers and throwbacks and surpisingly sea bass which we had to throwback. Some dogfish activity at times but not bad.The biggest problem was to either put on a crab and go for Togs,or a clam and shoot for some of the nice ling coming over the rail.I actually caught a couple of ling myself on the crab,Im sure others did as well.As you can see the blackfish were chewing today and some of them were LARGE!!!!Few over 10lbs,some 8lbrs.etc.....We even had a couple of fish on that were in the moose catergory.I watched one fish get halfway up after a good battle to get off the bottom just to take a strong run and pull the hook.(keep in mind to back off the drag alot of times when you get him off the bottom just in case he is barely hooked.Especially with spider wire and in deeper water)Another couple of big fish we just did not even get off the bottom and shaved us off, these fish made the ones we netted seem small and those were 8-10 lb.rs.I look forward to getting back out there tomorrow.Check out some pics.See ya tomorrow.Remember we are now carrying both green crabs and clams for bait, but the white leggers worked best for the Togs and clams for ling.I also have been having good luck lately with gulp for the ling, especially the little shrimp or lobster looking ones.I think they are called Ghost Shrimp or something. Both chartruese and that hot pink.
