Midweek fishing reports were scarce as the heat kept many fishermen home in the air conditioning.

Stripers

In north Jersey around Raritan Bay, fishing in the bay has slowed down but stripers are stll being caught in the ocean. Striper trolling in the daytime is limited to the North jersey Areas. they are being found below bunker scholls in the ocean.



Surf

Kingfish are all along the South Jersey coast. They are biting on bloodworms and Fishbites. The fish are small with few fish over 10 inches and there is no minimum size requirement. Riptide Bait and Tackle in Brigantine is reporting some nice catches of bluefish off the beaches.



Fluke.

The bay waters are warming. The larger fish are moving toward deeper water and the ocean.Larger fish can also be found along the edge of the deeper channels in the back bay. Fishing should improve near the inlets and out in the ocean especially on the near shore reefs. the back bays are still full of flounder, but there are many small fish. A lot of fish are being caught in the 4-5 lb range. A few have been weighed in at 7 or 8 lbs. The hot baits still seem to be Gulp and Spro jigs.Surf fishermen are catching a fair number of fluke. There are some big ones mixed in with the throwbacks.The Norma K in Point pleasant reported quite a few keeper fluke. They said that whole squid was producing the largest fish. The Fisherman in Atlantic Highland has been procing the best catches on Spro jigs. Scott's Bait and tackle is reporting good catches of keepers from the southern edge of LBI especially between buoy 114 to 116 on the ICWT. Two big fish were 10.0 29 1/2" caught by Rich Hood in the Tuckerton Bay and Joe Homoki captured a 6.7 pound 26" out near the Little Egg Reef Site



Bluefish

Bluefish are still biting in the mudhole on bait and jigs.The party boats in Brielle are reporting good catched of bluefish at night. the fish are reunning 7-14 lbs.

Wreck and reefs.

The party boats fishing the reefs have reported good catched of seabass. Clam seesm to be the best bait although squid will work. They are also finding the porgy fishing picking up. Some ling are being caught on the reefs as weel. Fluke are mixed in with the seabass and they tend to be larger fish.

Canyons

Tuna are showing up in the canyons. Hudson canyon has produced yellowfin tuna this week at the elbow.Capt. Frank Masse of the Tiburon reported landing 9 yellow fin tuna at the south end of Poor man’s canyon while trolling ballyhoo and spreader bars. Off the Hook Bait and Tackle found a blue marlin, several white marlin and large dolphin in the Wilmington Canyon.



Bluefin tuna

Bluefin have been caught this week inshore at areas like the hambone off Ocean City, Md. The are also at the 19 fathom liump, the cigar and other spots on the 20 fathom line.
