NJ Fishing
Crabbing is off to an early start. Most crabbers are able to get enough males. The minimum is 4 1/2 inches but many 5 1/2 inchers are being caught.
Sandy Hook fluke fishing is good but the fish are mostly small. They are feeding on grass shrimp and small crabs in sandy hook bay. Some 5 and 6 lb fluke have been caught but many times it takes 15- 20 fish to get a keeper. In some areas spros are the big lure and chartruese gulp is often the best.
There are still big bass in North Jersey but they are less plentiful than they were. Bunker seems to be the best bait especiall livelining. Surfcasters are still getting some bass from the beach.
Sea bass fishing had slowed down due to the colder temps, but the water is warming up and the bire is improving.
Weakfish are scarce and no one seems to know why. It could be the striped bass are eating the young. Overfishing does not seem to be happening at this time.
