NJ Fisheries meeting March 4th
The New Jersey Marine Fisheries Council will set 2010 recreational measures for summer flounder, black sea bass and scup in state waters this Thursday, March 4, in the L. Manuel Hirshblond Room at Toms River Township Office, 33 Washington Street, Toms River. The meeting starts at 4 p.m.
The meeting is open to the public, and considering all that has happened over the last year, especially when it comes to black sea bass, interest should be high.
The Council will be presenting options approved by the Atlantic States Fisheries Marine Council. For summer flounder, there are 12 options that contain a variety of combinations on size, bag limits and season lengths.
As for black sea bass, the ASMFC recommended a 12 1/2-inch minimum size limit, 25 possession limit and a season of May 22 to Sept. 12. However, there is a possibility of a split season from May 22 to Aug. 8, and a final month of Sept. 4 to Oct. 4. that would allow captains to fish for black sea bass once the summer flounder season has closed.
Those interested in having a say in the 2010 recreational fishing season should make it a point to attend the meeting.
