New Jersey Fishing reports 12-10
The catches this week have been fair to good with inshore structures holding blackfish and the deeper water wrecks offshore producing ling, sea bass, codfish, pollock and porgies.
A number of quality fish were also decked this week by anglers giving testament that there are some big fish lurking on our wrecks and rock piles right now.
One of the big fish was landed by angler Eileen Sefchick of Bridgewater while fishing for tog on the Norma K III. Capt. Ken Keller reports Sefchick hauled up a 16.9-pound tog on the inshore pieces.

Fishing reports in the surf haven't been good. The area in Bay Head that produced a pick of school bass yesterday was dead today. However, I did talk to one angler who managed a keeper and a short bass at first light this morning in the northern Ocean County surf. There was nothing caught there in the afternoon, though fishing was relatively comfortable with the wind at our backs.

Blackfish:
That fishing is at a seasonal peak. Despite rapidly cooling waters, tautog are still being caught inshore. Capt. Scotty Hilliard of Prowler V from Atlantic Highlands was catching them in just 52 feet, south of Sandy Hook Reef on Thursday. Deeper water spots such as the Rattlesnake should be the best bet now, and 17 Fathoms may be worth a try.
