FISHING REPORT

FINALLY… The bass are starting to show up!! We did weigh in a couple stripers from the inlet and these fish were caught on cut bait such as clam and bunker. Terry from Merchantville, NJ caught a 44” & 31# striper in the Delaware Bay using Bunker. And Brandon from SI City weighed in a 40” & 20 ˝# bass using clam in the TI Inlet. Also, Jim from W. Chester, PA weighed in a 33” & 10.83# striper he caught on the beach using clam. We currently have fresh bunker in stock however, it has been really hard to get lately. Tog fishing continues to be good both at the jetty and the TI Bridge using green crabs.

Jeanne Jeanne the FISHING MACHINE just caught her first striper off the boat!!!! Yes that is Jimmy's Wife and Sister actually putting fish blood on the boat! There is a first to everything Mr Smith heard that someone was trying to jump in on his turf and went out and caught 300 pounds of FRESH bunker to get me through Sunday. We have weighed in more then 50 fish over the past two days and can only hope that it will continue on....... Won't know until Sunday morning if it will be three in a row!!!! We also had a puppy drum weighed in..... What will Sunday bring us????

Rob Caruso just weighed in a striper just shy of 28 pounds off the surf to take over third place in the Riptide Striper Derby and is now in the lead for the week to win the Break-a-Way rod (290.00 value) that was donated to by Phil Fors of Rolling Tackle Box. The week ends on Sunday at 3:00 and the largest fish when we close will take home the rod. Will Rob's fish hold up???? You never know....

We had a steady stream of weigh-ins yesterday as the Elks tournament provided a lot of anglers catching fish. We weighed in fish to 28 pounds and they were eating bunker, clams, eels, and spot. Mr Smith gave me over 200 pounds of bunker but that is gone and he is out there very early today trying to get me as much as he can. You can ask the guys that caught yesterday what they were using for bait and you will see that what ever you put in front of these fish they will eat. They are hungry and on the move. Lets see if they decided to hang around for the weekend to munch on some more Riptide Rotters????? It should be a great weekend for fishing. If you are looking to head out to Wreck inlet, please be careful as I heard it was rough out there yesterday and I don't think it will change much today. The picture is Big A with a 19 pound striper caught off the surf.

Thanks and Good Luck

Capt Andy

NOVEMBER 6th

Most of the week the Bass bit very well with some really good blues action in between. Friday was a bit slow but we managed to put together a respectable catch anyway travelling way to the south.

Today was picky fishing with about 16 keeprs coming over the rail and about the same amount of shorts being returned to the water. Only a handfull of blues were taken today. Jigs and Crocs were the weapons of choice.

It looks like a new body of fish is moving down and we expect the bass to start biting really well again as the weather is due to improve over the next few days into mid week.

LOCAL FISHING REPORT FOR MANASQUAN INLET AREA OUT TO THE HUDSON CANYON

NOVEMBER 6, 2010

BEACH REPORT-
Plenty of bass being caught now along the local beaches. Using black Bombers, Ava's , JCC Sandeels and other sandeel type lures worked slowly in tight has been the ticket for many local anglers. No need to cast far out as the fish are in close and at times only 6 feet off the water line. Clams are also working pretty good for the guys who like to toss a meat stick out there. The fish are starting to get bigger this week and there is alot of bait in the water. There have been bluefish up to 19lbs caught from the beaches early in the week as well, so use those leaders if your not sure whats out there!

INSHORE-
The bass are in that 45-65ft water all along our area right now and jigging seems to be the best way to get them! Ava's, Grunts, and most of all Krocodiles are working to catch bass up to 40lbs!! Trolling has been holding its own, but spotting the fish and jigging has been much more succesful this week. I witnessed a few guys with fly rods doing a number on them as well off of the old Thunderbird on Wednesday. There are also some big blues with these bass in the deeper waters, so be ready to battle one and use your leaders so that you dont lose your jigs!
Seabass & Tog have been pretty good as well this week. The seabass season is now open again, but the tog limit is still just 1 fish for another 2 weeks. All of the inshore and deepwater wrecks & reefs are holding fish.

The big talk is of the inshore bluefin tuna run that is under way right now! We have fish just under 100lbs being caught just 2 miles off the inlets. Poppers were the most important thing to have on you last week. The fish are up on top feeding on halfbeaks. Others are trolling ballyhoo way back and catching fish. A 87lb Bluefin was trolled on 11/2 on the Axel Carlson Reef. You can also use jigs to stop on these breaking fish and score some fish!

OFFSHORE-
The Hudson has settled down soem but the fish are still being caught. The souhern Canyons are a better place to find YFT, longfin and some bigeye. The most recent trips off, have been better on the southern grounds than The Hudson area. Plenty of cod and jumbo seabass being taken on the offshore wrecks and the fishing is getting better every week that passes!!
Bluefin are also out all of the way to the edges of the canyons as well. To be honest....the bigger fish seem to be inshore right now though!!!

New Jersey Fishing Report...By Captain Bob Pennington

Saturday, November 6: An excellent trip to finish our offshore tuna season! BP sailed out to the Hudson Canyon and anchored up in water that was just 58 degrees. We hooked into six swordfish, landing three of them, and a tuna during the night hours. Most of the action came near dawn and in daylight. There was a variety of yellow fin and long fin tunas caught and they all weighed more than 50 pounds. Some highlights include: Congratulations to Jeff Jensen who caught his limit of tuna for the first time! Andy Solowen fought and decked a 250 pound swordfish with some assistance from Mike Agio and Mike Ajamian. Jerry Yacoviello and Rich Kenney each caught multiple tunas. Dan Ely and Robert Mitchell were the only two anglers to land tuna caught on jigs, all other tuna were caught with bait. Every group caught some big tuna, even though many did not hit the deck due to high winds and a strong current. This was a great way to end the tuna season. We will be sailing for blue fish and stripers EVERY DAY through the end of November.

Friday, November 5: Very good jigging for stripers and blue fish south of the Manasquan inlet. With only a dozen anglers, we landed eight keeper bass. John Hall and friends caught stripers and plenty of big blue fish! Congratulations to 9 year old Decklan Martin, Manalapan, for catching a 31 inch bass and kudos to Cole Riback who landed a 32 inch striper. The Sea Devil is sailing EVERY DAY for stripers and blue fish beginning on Sunday, November 7, through November 30. Plan to arrive by 7 a.m.

SEA HUNTER STRIPERS 11-5
Another very good day today!!! After the first few hours we should have been able to go home, The birds were up and the Stripers were hungry. Most people had the limit, But a few just couldn't get it. When the fish are up and feeding, You must work for them! You must listen to the Captain and Mates. We want you to catch the fish. We fell 5 Stripers short of the boat limit today with a pretty good crowd considering the forecast. The pool winner went 18lbs and was caught by Don Loomis from South Plainfield. Mike Harrison and his son Tim and neighbor Chris Andreas pictured below did a great job today. Below is not even half of today's catch.
Thanks for checking in, Capt Rob

Nov. 6th: There are lots of striped bass around and the tides this weekend favor the angler..............
Joe Spinelli weighed in a 17 lb. bass.............
***
Nov. 4th: Some really nice striped bass have been taken over the past few days.............
More and more bass are showing up in local waters and the next few weeks should offer some great fishing. Evenings into darkness seems to be the best time to fish and most of the anglers seem to be favoring yellow as the color of choice. The weatherman sez we are in for some nasty weather and by the looks of things he may be right this time. If he is; break out the big plugs and heavy metal; you guys that fish bait should be in your glory.

Bob Matthews of Fisherman's Den in Belmar said the fishing is good and if you want to catch bass, now is the time to get out there. "It's not blitz fishing, but there are nice fish around," he said. He weighed in two bass of 28.8 and 15 pounds for Andrew DeFranco of the Shark River Surf Anglers, two for Marty Westerfield of Wall at 15 and 19.8 pounds and Bill Massey of Wall got six fish up to 15 pounds on a fly rod. Matthews said the clams might do the trick in the bad weather over the next couple of days, then the action will be on plugs and lures.

Ronny Bala at Fisherman's Supply said the surf fishing shaped up really good last weekend. Kyle Warshawer, 5 years old of Hightstown, caught four bass up to 15 pounds fishing with his dad on the beach. They were using Vision sand eels. Glenn Thompson, Manasquan, caught a 34-inch, 23-pound striper at night on Bay Head. "There was also great action on the Seaside and Island State beaches," Bala said.

Quantcast

Jack Monteiro at Surf Side Bait and Tackle in Long Branch reported the sand eels bite continues with bass offshore and on the beach. There's lots of fish being caught but not everybody is weighing them in. Guys who did were Mike Szalay, Long Branch, with a 12-pound striper he caught on eels, Tony Melo, Long Branch with an 18.2 pounder he got on a shad and Gerard Faccone of Long Branch landed an 11.8-pound blackfish he landed on the rocks in Deal.
