Capt. Charlie Eble of the Doris Mae IV out of Barnegat Light reported a mixed catch of yellowfin and longfin on a tuna trip this week. They tallied 26 total tuna with the largest yellowfin at 70 pounds. Anglers also landed tilefish

Bunker and clams caught most of the fish on the beaches this week reports Ray Cherico at Grumpy's Bait and Tackle in Seaside Heights. The action was not as fast as the week prior. Perhaps the full moon slowed it down.

Ronny Bala at Fishermen's Supply in Point Beach said he's been hearing good reports for stripers. "It looks like it's shaping up to be a real good weekend for fish," he said. Bala fished Point Beach Thursday morning and landed a 13-pound striper on a metal Skip sand eel swimmer. Fishing at night in the Manasquan River angler Bob White of Point Pleasant landed a 42-inch, 27-pound striper and a 33-inch, 12 1/2-pound striper on Rat-L Traps.

Bob Matthews at Fisherman's Den in Belmar said the striper fishing picked up nicely since last week. There were fish reported in the Spring Lake surf on Wednesday with keeper-size bass. Matthews echoed most others when he said the fishing at Sandy Hook is red hot. "You have to be willing to travel a little bit," Matthews said.

Jack Monteiro at Surf Side Bait and Tackle in Long Branch reported that sand eels are all over the beach and guys fishing sand eels imitations, like Vision sand eels, were catching fish. Bob Dooley, Long Branch weighed in stripers of 12, 9.8, and 16 pounds over the course of a couple days

Capt. Sal Cursi of the Cathy Sea, Sewaren, said the bass fishing is improving every week with the fish getting increasingly larger. jigging is working as well as trolling. Capt. Cursi recommends that black or wine-colored tubes as sand eels are plentiful
