New Jersey Fishing reports 10-29
Surfcasting may finally be coming to life, as anglers fishing North Beach at Sandy Hook have been catching mostly short bass each of the last two afternoons. Boat reports have been hard to come by due to the weather
The best bass of the week was a 28-pounder jigged by Kyle Boyle of Millville. Diamond jigs have been the best bets so far. Shad jigs also produce, but get cut up by bluefish.

Capt. Sal Cursi of the Cathy Sea, Sewaren, said the bass fishing is improving every week with the fish getting increasingly larger. jigging is working as well as trolling. Capt. Cursi recommends that black or wine-colored tubes as sand eels are plentiful. He also said the shad rigs will get torn up by the bluefish anyway and there aren't any peanut bunker around anyway.

Ronny Bala at Fishermen's Supply in Point Beach said he's been hearing good reports for stripers. "It looks like it's shaping up to be a real good weekend for fish," he said. Bala fished Point Beach Thursday morning and landed a 13-pound striper on a metal Skip sand eel swimmer. Fishing at night in the Manasquan River angler Bob White of Point Pleasant landed a 42-inch, 27-pound striper and a 33-inch, 12 1/2-pound striper on Rat-L Traps.

Bunker and clams caught most of the fish on the beaches this week reports Ray Cherico at Grumpy's Bait and Tackle in Seaside Heights. The action was not as fast as the week prior. Perhaps the full moon slowed it down. The shop's log book shows they had a number of striped bass and bluefish weigh-ins but nothing really big on the scales
