New Jersey fishing report 9-5
Absecon Bay Sportsman Center
The sun has risin on the unofficial last day of summer, Labor Day 2011, I hope everyone has a great holiday! It is a time of transition, but the seasons best fishing has just begun. We still have 3 weeks of flounder fishing left and they should be thick for the surf fishermen when they come into the wash chasing mullet and on the lumps, in the troughs and on the artificial reefs as they fattne up for their annual migration offshore. Plenty of time to fill the freezers for the winter...

Fishing Report
The aftermath of Irene (which was much worse inland) destroyed what good fluking there was inshore for us.
Lou Gura was the first pool winner of the week with a 1.5 lb seabass. OK, it's a start. Then Bob Mansure of Yardville, NJ won with a 3-pound fluke (now we're getting somewhere).
Friday the pool winner was Team Lumberton NJ, Dennis Haney with a 3.2 lb fluke and after that all 7734 broke loose! Long ride but well worth the trip, the fish were hungry and Capt. Will put us on them! So much action you really got a chance to sharpen those hooking up skills. If we could keep 17-inch fish we would have doubled our catch, but as usual we follow the regulations and therefore a lot of throwbacks, except for John Wonerlin of Burlington, NJ, who won the Sunday pool with a nice 5-lb fluke.
It looks like we might get some weather next week so hang on to your hat and don't think about putting those rods away yet! September can be a long and bountiful month as soon as the weather clears, see you with calm seas and be safe.

The night bite turned on for Capt Bob and the Golden Eagle fishermen last night! Capt Bob Clark went out to the east and on the second drop began to bang away at the 8-12lb choppers ending up with some limits, full coolers and bags and a pool winning fish around 14lbs.Lets hope this keeps up!
The day bite today was non impressive with a pick of 8-12lb blues on bait and jigs. Fairly slow fishing but showed signs of improvement from what it was. Dirty water conditions should clear and help the bite improve.

Friday Fluke Report (9/2/11)
Hey Guys, today was not much better out there. The water still is not back to normal, going to take a couple of days. We had some keepers, as well as a mixed bag of keeper Sea Bass, Porgies and Bluefish. Don`t forget, we will not be sailing our afternoon trips anymore. See ya on the dock!
Saturday Report (9/3/11)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Guys, got out today with literally a handful of fares. Had 9-10 keeper fluke and a few more shorts than yesterday. Again we brought over the rail 12-15 keeper Sea Bass and 8-10 keeper Porgies. I hate to say it, but I`m hoping that by mid week the water should be back to normal and the fluke will return. Don`t forget, we are not sailing our afternoon trips anymore. See ya on the dock!

SEA HUNTER 9-4 Finally back on line
I hope everyone is OK after the storm. Its been hectic around here! One thing is for sure it took its toll on the Fluke fishing. Its been a struggle we are getting a few fish but its not easy. Only a few spots are holding a few fish other spots have been barren. The bottom really got churned up. I hope that we get another good shot of fish before the season ends on September 25th. Only time will tell. As always we go out and do our best.
Hopefully better days are coming, Capt. Rob

Fishing is showing some stronger signs of returning to pre-Irene action.
Joan Barrett said Dolphin Dock in Somers Point weighed a 1.64-pound croaker caught Thursday by Dylan Ralston of Linwood. He was fishing in the ocean off the Ferris wheel in Ocean City. And John Kelly of Ocean City picked a 3-pound flounder off Ocean City Reef on Thursday night.
"Irene is behind us, let's move forward," Barrett said of last weekend's hurricane. "Don't put those rods away, summer is not over."

Just look what the tide brought in now.
Many anglers were hopeful that false albacore would show up inshore in the days after Irene. Instead, some of the first boats to start getting back on the water found lizardfish.
“They must have hitched a ride on the back of the storm,” said Capt. Morgan Murphy of the Norma K III.

Everyone is back to fishing after Irene’s visit. The party boats are back out with some going Tuesday while others waited until Thursday for their first trip. Capt. Tom Buban of the Atlantic Star, Atlantic Highlands went out Tuesday afternoon and found some shorts and a few keepers but the water was still churned up. Things improved steadily on Wednesday and Thursday in Raritan Bay as the water began to clear up and more fish were caught
Jack Monteiro at Surf Side Bait and Tackle in Long Branch broke some exciting news. Acres of big bunker were spotted off Elberon on Wednesday with big bass crashing into them. “It looked like spring,” he said. Hopefully, they’ll stick around. Monteiro also reported fluke are still being caught in the surf and the triggerfish are around. He had no reports of albies, but it can’t be long before they show

Bob Matthews at Fisherman’s Den in Belmar said that all that’s missing is people. All of the rental boats are back in the water, he said, but suspects Irene’s aftermath is keeping anglers at home. He reported that the guys fishing the dock did real well with the fluke on Wednesday. He said the snappers came back stronger than ever and there was mullet pouring out of the river on Wednesday as well. He also reported big bluefish, up to 12 pounds moved in closer to the beach and some stripers are now being taken on bait, plugs and fly rods.
Ronny Bala at Fisherman’s Supply said fishermen are back on the beaches. Chris Brooks and his son, Jonathan, 12, fished with DJ Muller on the Spring Lake beaches and found small blues and fluke biting. Chris had a 2-pound bluefish on a popper and Jonathan had a short 16-inch fluke. Bala said there are reports of bunker, mullet and rainfish in the surf

Bob Bergstadt at Trixies Landing in Bayville said he hasn’t heard much on the fishing front but the crabbing has held up. “A commercial crabber said it was better than before the storm,” Bergstadt said. He said recreational people have started up again on the row boats and are reporting catches of a half to three-quarters a bushel of crabs
Capt. Charlie Eble of the Doris Mae IV reports the small blues they were catching on the Barnegat Ridge have been replaced with 8- to 10-pound bluefish. “There's school after school of big blues. If you have been waiting for the big ones now's the time,” Eble said. The crew from the Miss Barnegat Light also reports the big blues are back.

Capt. Chris De Stefano of Wall trolled a 93-pound wahoo Saturday in Toms Canyon to put Frank Criscola's Crisdel from Brielle Yacht Club way out in front in that Manasquan River Marlin & Tuna Club Tournament category. Crisdel also trolled 15 yellowfin tuna up to a 58-pounder. Capt. Paul Dalik and mate George Steller Jr were the crew, and the other anglers were Dr. Joe DePrestifillipo and Capt. John Magursky. De Stefano said he heard of some blue marlin and white marlin releases that day, but the runaway tuna leader was a 270-pound bigeye boated Friday on Low Bid.

Positive reports have been relatively few since the hurricane, and today was no exception. The best came from the Sea Devil out of Point Pleasant as Capt. Bob Pennington chummed some 8-to-10-pound blues at Shrewsbury Rocks. John Kauterman won the pool with a 14-pounder. The Sea Devil is open boat bluefishing Sunday, but is chartered Monday.

Bottom fishing usually suffers the biggest drop-off after a storm, but sea bass actually may be biting better now. As previously noted, Capt. Bobby Bogan of the Gambler from Point Pleasant is seeing more sea bass of all sizes while drifting five miles east of the inlet. Capt. Bud McArthur of Brick did little with fluke today at Axel Carlsen Reef, but switched to sea bass there and did well with them along with some good-sized porgies and a legal blackfish.
