FEB 27: Fishing Seminar for Kids. Sponsored by Belmar Recreation and the Shark River Surf Anglers. Taylor Pavilion, Ocean Avenue in Belmar from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a free freshwater fishing lesson with knot tying, casting, landing and releasing. Rain or shine, lessons will be indoors. Parents can help get their kids ready for Spring Lake Contest on Opening Day.

FEB. 27: Salt Water Sportsman National Seminar Series, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Performing Arts Theater at Monmouth Regional High School, 1 Norman J. Field Way, Tinton Falls. Headlining the event will be George Poveromo, host of George Poveromo's World of Saltwater Fishing on ESPN2, and a senior editor for Salt Water Sportsman, and Gary Caputi — offshore editor for Salt Water Sportsman. MARCH 13: Jersey Shore Saltwater Fishing Show. Presented by the Shore Catch Guide Service and Stripersurf.com, the show will feature 21 seminars and workshops presented by the area's top saltwater anglers. MARCH 14: Asbury Park Fishing Club 18th Annual Indoor Fishing Flea Market. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Convention Hall, Ocean Ave., in Asbury Park. This flea market draws some of the nation's top plug builders and offers a wide variety of salt water equipment.

MARCH 26: 13th Annual IGFA New Jersey Representatives Fund Raising Banquet and Auction, 7 p.m. at Doolan's in Spring Lake. Hosted by New Jersey's IGFA representatives, the event raises funds for the IGFA's Junior Angler and Conservation Programs. The Fishing Tackle Bonanza Auction following the dinner offers thousands of dollars worth of fishing tackle, including rods, reels line and lures, plus jewelry marine artwork and other fishing related items. Top item at the auction is a bonefishing vacation at the private home of IGFA trustee Jack Willits on Chub Cay in the Bahamas. APRIL 6, 13, 20, 24: Trout Fishing New Jersey Streams, Brookdale Community College with Bob Jaroszewski, Field Writer, New Jersey Angler magazine. A beginner's guide to understanding trout movement and behavior on New Jersey's streams. Learn how to use the proper lures, baits, flies, tackle and equipment to "read" the stream and catch a lunker. Last class is a field trip to Central Jersey's best trout water, the Manasquan River. Basic fishing knowledge beneficial but not required. Trout Contest for Kids. Sponsored by the Shark River Surf Anglers 8 a.m. to 1:30 pm at Spring Lake. More than 500 trout, from 14 to 31 inches and weighing up to 12 pounds will be released into the lake. Contest open to kids 15 and under. Prizes for all age groups, including a grand prize.
